Hollywood prepares for 2015 Oscars this Sunday

    February 22, 2015

Over 300 workers are working hard on Hollywood boulevard at the Hollywood and Highland Complex in front of the Dolby theatre in preparation for the 87th Academy Awards to be held this coming Sunday, February 22, 2015, in Hollywood, California. With a slight chance of rain for the weekend extra precautions have been made and are still being made to protect the all-important red carpet.

Along with setting the red carpet, teams of workers are building risers for the fans, plenty of space for the press and of course a speckling of gold Oscars, both small and large in size. The gigantic red carpet covers most of Hollywood boulevard from Highland to the center of the road in front of the Dolby Theatre and then turns towards the theater, extends up the walk way to the gold staircase until it reaches the end at the round rotunda in front of the doorway leading into the Dolby Theatre.

But all the talk is about the possibility of bad weather. Usually when California is in the spotlight, the weather is beautiful as if even Mother Nature is aware her work is on camera, but torrential rains are on the forecast. For now, the Oscars will keep the red carpet covered in plastic. A large clear plastic overhang has also been installed in most of the areas to protect the area during the Sunday parade of stars.

On Wednesday, press from all points around the globe started filing in to receive their credentials and a red carpet walk through provided by the Oscar staff. Some of the press were spotted on the covered carpet practicing and making sound checks for the Sunday event. Many news organizations will be providing live news coverage on the next few days before Oscar Sunday as well, including Good Morning America.

Visitors to Hollywood are having a rare treat to view the process of seeing the famous thoroughfare transformed into the most watched red carpet of the year. Residents of Los Angeles and Hollywood are facing more road closures as the big day arrives, but surely are use to the yearly ritual.

The 87th Annual Academy Awards will be held on Sunday, February 22, 2015, and will be held at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center. The night will be hosted by Neil Patrick Harris live on ABC and will be televised in more than 225 countries worldwide.
