Ricky Gervais will return to host the 2016 Golden Globe Awards

    October 26, 2015

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, presenters of the yearly Golden Globe Awards, announced today (October 26, 2015) on Twitter, that comedian Ricky Gervais will be returning to host the 2016 Golden Globe Awards. Gervais hosted the illustrious award show for three straight years from 2010 to 2012.

“We’re excited to have Ricky Gervais back to host the most enjoyable awards show of the season in his own inimitable way,” said NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt in a statement. “Disarming and surprising, Ricky is ready to honor — and send up — the best work of the year in film and television. Fasten your seats belts.”

Gervais is returning to the Golden Globe stage after a very successful hosting run by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. The gal pal team also hosting the event for three years straight from 2013 through 2015.

It's actually very surprising that Gervais was chosen to return to host the Golden Globes, after his performance in 2012 was very controversial. Some Hollywood insiders were hoping for some fresh comic talent like Amy Schumar to give the show an update feel.

But ultimately Gervais brings uncertainty - which can be very funny and bring in great ratings as fans at home wonder what the comedian might say or do.

“What will he say? What will he do? We can’t wait to find out, and we are so happy that he’s back!,” said Barry Adelman, Exec. V.P., Television for Dick Clark productions and executive producer of the 73rd Golden Globes.

2016 will mark the 73rd year that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association will honor the best in television and motion pictures by handing out golden globes at their yearly award show. The 2016 Golden Globe Awards will be presented on January 10, 2016, from the Beverly Hills Hilton in Beverly Hills, California. Nominations for the 2016 Golden Globe Awards will be released on Thursday, December 10, 2015.
