Quentin Tarantino's 'The Hateful Eight' will not disappoint his fans

    December 18, 2015

Filmmaker Quentin Tarantino has just released his latest film, "The Hateful Eight." This marks Tarantino's eighth feature film and he spared no expense by filming the movie in 70mm film. Tarantino is one of the few directors in Hollywood that can still make a movie using real film and filming in 70mm is rare and exciting these days.

"The Hateful Eight," is a story of two bounty hunters as they get snowbound in a cabin in the middle of the Wyoming mountains with a group of seemingly nefarious men. In essence it's a story that combines the rough and tumble nature of a Tarantino film with a mystery somewhat similar to the children's game Clue. This is a post-civil war story that is violent and even sometimes gory, which any Tarantino fan will expect.

Along on the ride are Tarantino regulars Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Madsen and Tim Roth along with Kurt Russell, Walton Goggins, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Bruce Dern and Demian Bichir - that make-up the core actors depicted as the hateful eight.

"The Hateful Eight," for the most part, takes place in one room and pits debauchery against the wit of the eight trapped in a Wyoming cabin as a blizzard takes place on the outside. Outside of the cabin may be quite dangerous, but being inside the cabin is surely going to be deadly and it is a cat and mouse game to the end to see who remains.

Tarantino has said he makes movie for grown-up and "The Hateful Eight," is no exception. From the very first moments of the film it's is quite a delight to see the mystery unfold that is both creatively twisted and completely unpredictable.

Despite all it has going for it "The Hateful Eight," is missing one key ingredient that Tarantino fans expect - a soundtrack of eclectic music to pair with the film. There are a few musical moments along the way, including a guitar solo by Jennifer Jason Leigh, but not to the extent of Tarantino's other films.

All in all, "The Hateful Eight," is a solid, entertaining time at the movies and will especially please the Tarantino crowd, but it is not the opus that many fans have been hoping from Tarantino. Noteworthy are Jennifer Jason Leigh as Daisy Domergue and Tarintino's ever tight script. Both of Tarantino's Oscars were earned for screenwriting and it wouldn't be surprising if he earns a third for "The Hateful Eight."

"The Hateful Eight," is rated R for strong bloody violence, a scene of violent sexual content, language and some graphic nudity, has a run-time of 168 minutes and one intermission.
