The 17th Annual Arthur Lyons Film Noir Festival started with the screening of the opening night film "Sudden Fear," at Camelot Theatres on Thursday, May 13, 2016, in Palm Springs, California. This film festival geared towards fans of noir films continues to grow each year as noir films continue to become more popular fare. The opening night screening featured a restored version of the 1952 film "Sudden Fear," starring Joan Crawford, Jack Palance and Gloria Grahame. "Sudden Fear, is a great forgotten suspense film and was the world premiere of a digital restoration. The film also garnered four Oscar nominations in 1953.
In the house to help celebrate opening night was Palm Springs Mayor Rob Moon, President of the Film Noir Association Eddie Muller, and Foster Hirsch.
Of the 12 film being screened during the weekend, 75% of them are being shown from their original 35mm prints. Friday, May 13 features a screening of "Intruder in the Dust," with star Academy Award winner Claude Jarman Jr., Sunday, May 15, Ann Robinson will be present for a screening of "Dragnet," and "Reign of Terror," will be shown with guest biographer James Curtis.
The festival has a wide variety of film noir items for sale in the lobby of Camelot Theaters. There will be DVD giveaways from the Warner Archive Collection and several book signings during the film noir weekend.
Following the screening was an opening night party for all weekend pass holders.
