'Birdman' and 'Modern Family' lead 2015 SAG nominations

Nominations by SAG/AFTRA for the 21st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were announced this morning on TNT, Dec, 10, 2014. The SAG Awards are unique in that it is the only Award Show that winners are solely voted for by their own peers. Announcing the nominations this morning were actors Ansel Elgort ("The Fault in our Stars") and Eva Longoria ("Desperate Housewives").

"Birdman," had the most nominations in the film categories, earning a nomination for Michael Keaton, Edward Norton and Emma Stone in the acting categories and a nomination for the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Motion Picture.

In the television categories, "Modern Family," racked-up the most nominations, earning four nominations including Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series and acting nominations for Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell and Eric Stonestreet.

Most of the nominations are fairly predictable. With a surprise nomination for Jennifer Aniston for her performance in "Cake." And a snub to actress Amy Adams for overlooking her performance in "Big Eyes."

Benedict Cumberbatch and Edward Norton tied for most nominations this year. Benedict Cumberbatch was nominated two times for the motion picture "The Imitation Game," and a third nomination for the TV movie/miniseries "Sherlock: His Last Vow." Edward Norton received two nominations for the motion picture "Birdman" and one nomination as a cast member for the motion picture "The Grand Budapest Hotel."

This year a brother and sister were nominated for SAG Awards: Jake Gyllenhaal was for his performance in "Nightcrawler" and "The Normal Heart" and his sister Maggie Gyllenhaal was nominated for her performance in Sundance TV's "The Honorable Woman."

Screen Actors Guild 51st Annual Life Achievement Award Debbie Reynolds

The SAG awards are voted on by over 100,000 SAG/AFTRA members across the nation. The Awards Show will be held at the Los Angeles Shrine Exposition Center on Sunday, January 25, 8 p.m. eastern/5 p.m. pacific and will be broadcast live on TNT and TBS.
