'Boyhood' wins big at 2015 Golden Globes Awards
"Boyhood," the film that took filmmaker Richard Linklater 12 years to make and celebrates the American family, was the biggest winner at the 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards as voted by Hollywood Foreign Press Association and presented live on television from The Beverly Hilton Hotel on January 11, 2015, in Beverly Hills, California. The Golden Globe Awards honor the best in film and television. Hosting the Golden Globe Awards for a third and final time were the female comedians and SNL alumni Tina Fey and Amy Poelher.
For the most part the Golden Globe Awards show this year was a hodgepodge of spreading awards across the television and film industry (although it was nice to see a the dethroning of "Modern Family" in the television category) and not having clear strong winners was a bit underwhelming. The show seemed to drag a bit.
"Boyhood" took home the most awards for the night, winning three Golden Globes for Best Motion Picture - Drama, Best Director for Richard Linklater and Best Supporting Actress for Patricia Arquette.
"Birdman," the film with most nominations before the show won two Golden Globe Awards. The first for its remarkable screenplay and the second to actor Michael Keaton for Best Actor in a Drama. Keaton gave the most endearing speech of the night: speaking of his humble beginnings and the life his poor, but loving family gave him.
The beautiful and talented actress Julianne Moore received honors for Best Actress - Drama for her performance as a woman that has been diagnosed with early onset diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease in "Still Alice." Mark my words right now, the Oscar is assuredly belongs to her this year.
The young and gifted Eddie Redmayne won the Best Actor Award - Drama for his performance as scientist Stephen Hawking. In his acceptance speech he thank Mr. Hawking, saying, "Getting to spend time with Stephen Hawking who has lived a passionate life with great honor was one of the great honors in my life."
Amy Adams, last year's Golden Globe winner for her performance in "American Hustle," took home another Golden Globe tonight for her performance in "Big Eyes."
And it was no surprise when character actor J.K. Simmons won a Golden Globe Award for his stellar performance in "Whiplash." Again, mark my words, Simmons will also be a winner come Oscar Sunday.
In the television categories, the mini-series "Fargo," the Amazon original series "Transparent" and the new Showtime series "The Affair" all took home two awards.
George Clooney, often referred to as the nicest guy in Hollywood, was honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award. He took to the stage and stayed true to his nature and thanked his new wife, Amal Alamuddin, an international human rights attorney, saying, "It's a humbling thing to find someone to love."
And speaking for the freedom of expression and responding to the terrorist attack in Paris just a few days ago, Clooney finished his remarks with,"Je suis Charlie."
