Four-time Oscar nominee Ed Harris gets star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce bestowed upon actor Ed Harris a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Friday, March 13, 2015, in the heart of Hollywood, California. He received a star for his work in motion pictures. Harris is starring opposite Liam Neeson in the action film "Run All Night," which was released into theaters nationwide on March 13 as well.

Harris received the 2,546th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and his star is located in front of the historic Egyptian Theatre, located at 6712 Hollywood Boulevard. On hand to help celebrate with Harris were his co-workers, actors Marcia Gay Harden and Andy Garcia, his wife Amy Madigan and their daughter.

“Acting has been a source of deep fulfillment and meaning to me, so I thank you for recognizing that I have done it pretty well, at least up to now,” said Harris in his acceptance speech."

Ed Harris was born in 1950 in Tenafly, New Jersey. His mother was a travel agent and his father owned a bookstore and was also a professional singer. He studied at Columbia University in New York and completed his studies at the University of Oklahoma, earning a degree in drama. Upon graduation he moved to Los Angeles to look for work. He first worked in local theater and in television guest spots. His first real break was being cast in the popular film "The Right Stuff," portraying astronaut John Glenn.

Ed Harris has been nominated four times for an Academy Award for his performances in "Apollo 13" (1995), "The Truman Show" (1998), "Pollock" (2000) - a film he also directed, and "The Hours" (2002). He is the winner of two Golden Globe Awards for his performances in "The Truman Show" and the Showtime television motion picture also starring Julianne Moore, "Game Change." He has also been nominated for two Primetime Emmy Awards and two BAFTA Awards.

Along with the current release of "Run All Night," Harris will be starring with Milla Jovovich and Ethan Hawke in Michael Almereyda's "Cymbeline." He just recently finished filming alongside Andy Garcia in a film yet to be named, directed by Dean Devlin.
