Palm Springs International Film Festival Announces 2016 Dates
The Palm Springs International Film Society announced today in a press release the dates for the 2016 Film Festival and Awards Gala today, on Wednesday, August 20, 2015, in Palm Springs, California. This film festival was created 27 years ago, by then Palm Springs mayor Sonny Bono. Now it is one of the most elite film festivals and is considered to be the first stop during award season. This year the festival will have a program of over 200 films from more than 60 nations.
Last year the Palm Springs International Film Festival was hosted more than 135,000 film lovers in attendance to see the best available in international cinema. The festival is known for bringing most of the foreign language films vying for Oscar nominations, along with a mix of independent films, live events with filmmakers and stars from around the globe and the glitzy, A-list gala. The 27th Annual Palm Springs Film Festival Gala will be held one day after New Year's day on Saturday, January 2, 2016.
Last year’s Festival gala honorees included: Robert Duvall, Richard Linklater, David Oyelowo, Eddie Redmayne, Alejandro G. Iñárritu, Julianne Moore, Rosamund Pike, JK Simmons, Reese Witherspoon and the cast of "The Imitation Game". Nine of the 10 festival honorees were nominated for Academy Awards and four of them went on to win Oscars.
The film festival will show films on fifteen films throughout the city of Palm Springs beginning Friday, January 1 through Monday, January 11.
