2016 TCM Classic Film Festival sets dates and announces theme

Turner Classic Movies announced today (Tuesday, September 1, 2015), in a press release announced the dates and theme of the 2016 TCM Classic Film Festival. This marks the seventh year that TCM will transform the streets of Hollywood into the mecca for film lovers from across the globe. The four day event will begin on Thursday, April 28 and will end on Sunday, May 1. This coming year the theme is simple, yet dramatic: Moving Pictures. TCM will pack this long weekend with a plethora of movies that inspire us, stir us and most of all touch us. TCM Classic Film Festival passes will go on sale to the public on Thursday, November 19.

News that will really make TCM fans happy is that TCM host and friend to all TCM fansRobert Osborne will return to host of the festival, last year Osborne had to bow out due to health issues. And of course, Osborne's classic film sidekick Ben Mankiewicz will be along to help with the presentation of film events and screenings.

TCM explains the theme of Moving Pictures in this statement, "The magic of movies isn't just motion, it's emotion. As we watch cinematic stories play out, they feel like our own. In 2016, the TCM Classic Film Festival explores Moving Pictures - the ones that bring us to tears, rouse us to action, inspire us, even project us to a higher plane. In the heart of historic Hollywood we'll gather to share the big-time emotions of big screen stories, from coming-of-age pictures to terminal tearjerkers, from powerful sports drams we feel in our bones to religious epics that elevate our spirits. These are the films that set our love of cinema in motion."

Passes will be available to purchase exclusively through the official TCM festival website: www.tcm.com/festival

The official hotel and central TCM gathering area for the 2016 festival will be, for the seventh year consecutively, The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel - home of the very first Academy Awards presentation in 1929. The hotel is already booking rooms for the festival and offers special rates to TCM fans - but rooms sell out fast.

Screenings are held in theaters near The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, including the TCL Chinese 6 Theaters, TCL Chinese Theatre IMAX, the Egyptian Theatre and other Hollywood landmarks.

The TCM Classic Film Festival is an unique opportunity to see rare, sometimes newly restored prints of the some of the grandest films ever made and how films were intended to be seen - with a group of like-minded friends.
