Filmmaker Ridley Scott receives a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

Oscar nominated Filmmaker Ridley Scott was honored by The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce by receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday, November 5, 2015, in Hollywood, California. Scott received the 2,564th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, for the category of Motion Pictures and is located at 6712 Hollywood Boulevard, right in front of the historic Egyptian Theatre.

“We are proud to dedicate a star to one of Hollywood’s most prolific directors who is responsible for so many of Hollywood’s iconic films. Ridley Scott’s work will long be a part of our film history,” stated Leron Gubler, Hollywood Chamber President/CEO.

Joining emcee Leron Gubler to unveil the star for Ridley Scott were actors Kristen Wiig and Russell Crowe. The event was live-streamed exclusively on

Ridley Scott was born in England and grew up in London, Wales and Germany. His first interest was graphic design and painting, he attended West Hartlepool College of Art and also at the Royal Academy of Art in London. It was at the latter in which Scott completed his first short film. He graduated from the Royal Academy of Art with honors and Scott made a move to the United States to start his career.

Scott has been nominated for three Oscars for his direction of "Thelma & Louise," (1992), "Gladiator," (2001) and "Black Hawk Down," (2002). The three films also earned Scott nominations for the yearly awards at the Directors Guild of America. Scott is mostly known for his "Alien" series of films, but he has also directed "American Gangster," "Gladiator," "Blade Runner" and most recently the big hit of 2015, "The Martian," starring Matt Damon.

Ridley Scott was knighted by the Queen of England in 2003 in recognition of his contribution to the motion picture arts.

Inductees are required to have worked with a charity and Scott has chosen to raise funds for the charity LEUKA. This charity raises monies to treat Leukemia patients at London's Hammersmith Hospital. Scott also helps out for the ASPCA and UNICEF.
