TCM Film Fest announces 'All the President's Men' to open 2016 Film Festival


Turner Classic Movies announced in a press release on Monday, March 14, 2016, that the film "All the President's Men," starring Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman will open the 7th Annual TCM Film Festival come this spring. "All the President's Men" was released in 1976 and was nominated for eight Academy Awards, including a nomination for Best Picture. The film won four Oscars, including wins to Jason Robards for Best Supporting Actor, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Art Direction and Best Sound. TCM did not indicate if Redford or Hoffman will be appearing in person for this event, that marks the 40th anniversary of for this political thriller.

TCM also announced that during the festival filmmaker Carl Reiner will be honored during a screening of his film "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid," which bucked the trend in the 1980's by using black and white film. The movie stars Steve Martin. The screening will include a discussion with Reiner about his long-standing career in Hollywood.

The festival will also celebrate the work of Elliott Gould. The festival will include a screening of the Oscar-winning film "M*A*S*H," from 1970 and "The Long Goodbye," from 1973. Gould will participate in discussion of his work at the TCM Club.

Oscar-winning actress Eva Marie Saint will also be on hand for a screening of "The Russians are Coming The Russians are Coming," from 1966. Filmmaker John Singleton will be present for a 25th anniversary screening of "Boyz N the Hood," which marked his directorial debut in 1991.

Golden Globe-winning actor Stacy Keach will present John Huston's film, "Fat City," from 1972. And a screening of Jean-Luc Godard's "Band of Outsiders," will be presented by French actress Anna Karina, which boast the US premiere of a newly restored print.

For silent screen lovers, Harold Lloyd's movie from 1925, "The Freshman," will be screened on opening night, poolside at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel with special guest Suzanne Lloyd.

The 7th Annual TCM Film Festival will be held in the heart of Hollywood from Thursday, April 28 through Sunday, May 1. For more information see: filmfestival.tcm.com
