Jodie Foster honored with star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame

Academy Award winning actress and filmmaker Jodie Foster was honored with a star on theHollywood Walk Of Fame held on May 4, 2016, in Hollywood, California. Foster received the 2,580th star to grace the streets of Hollywood and is located on 6927 Hollywood Boulevard in front of the TLC Chinese Theatre IMAX. Foster celebrated the honor was actress and "Panic Room," co-star Kristen Stewart and her family.

We have been waiting for a long time for Jodie Foster to set a date for her star and are thrilled that the time has come. She is a great role model for women and we are proud to add her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame," stated Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez.

Some of the comments made by Foster included, "I grew up 10 blocks away on Cahuenga. The star ceremony was something I always thought of and wanted. We do things like this for our mothers. My mother can't be here, but I know that she is here in spirit. Thank you all for braving the incredibly difficult drizzly Los Angeles weather to come watch me have a secret fantasy fulfilled. I love Hollywood, this is where I grew-up. It's changing and evolving. I enjoyed it when I was growing up, I loved everything that is was, when I was here and I love it now."

Jodie Foster received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for the profession of directing, but it was as an actress that made Jodie Foster's name a household name. She grew-up in Hollywood and was a presence in film and television as a child. Her iconic commercial as the Coppertone girl was on air and her image was featured on billboards long after her job was over.

It was her performance as the daughter to Ellen Burstyn's character and film "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore," and as a child prostitute in "Taxi Driver," that made Foster a star. It was for the second film, both of which were directed by Martin Scorsese, that Foster was honored with her first Academy Award nomination.

Foster did not ascend to adult acting straight away. Instead she attended the prestigious Yale University and received a bachelor's degree in literature with honors in 1985. It wasn't long after her college days were over, before Foster started starring in adult roles. Her transition to film as an adult appeared seamless, while other child actors found it difficult to find employment.

In 1989, Foster was nominated for an Academy Award for her heart-wrenching performance as a rape victim in the film "The Accused." Her competition that year was fierce, as she was nominated with Sigourney Weaver, Melanie Griffith, Glenn Close and Meryl Streep. But it was Foster that became victorious, winning her first Oscar. The role brought a very needed public conversation about rape and the mischaracterizations of rape victims.

Foster won her second Academy Award just four years later playing FBI agent Starling in the hit thriller "Silence of the Lambs." The film went on to win a total of five Oscars, including one for Best Picture.

Foster created her own production company which launched several projects for film and television. Some of these projects starred Foster, including the film "Nell." This very personal film, which co-starred Liam Neeson and Natasha Richardson, earned Foster her third Academy Award nomination in 1995.

Foster has also been successful as a tried-and-true Hollywood director. Her feature film directorial debut was for "Little Man Tate," which came out in 1991. And this year she is releasing the crime drama "Money Monster," a film with an all-star cast including Julia Roberts, George Clooney and Jack O'Connell.
