'Big Bang Theory' star Jim Parsons gets star on Hollywood Walk of Fame
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce bestowed upon actor Jim Parsons a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Wednesday, March 11, 2015, in the heart of Hollywood, California. He received a star for his work in television. Currently Parson is star of the long-running hit television comedy series "The Big Bang Theory." The show airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on CBS.
Parsons received the 2,545th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and his star is located in front of the historic Hudson Apartments, located at 6533 Hollywood Boulevard. On hand to help celebrate with Parsons' extended family and his cast mates from his hit television series "The Big Bang Theory."
Ana Martinez, producer of the Walk of Fame ceremonies remarked about Parsons' star ceremony, "Jim's fans have been anxiously awaiting this well-deserved star ceremony and they will get a big bang out of seeing our recipient receiving this honor!"
Presiding over the presentation of Parsons' star was television producer Chuck Lorre of "The Big Bang Theory" and DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg - on hand for Parsons' most recent job voicing the character in the new animated film "Home." The film is an adaption of the award-winning book "The True Meaning of Smekday."
Speaking to an energetic crowd of colleagues, friends, family and a plethora of "Big Bang" fans, Parsons' said, "Good grief. Thank you to the people up and down the street. It's very special to me that my family and my "Big Bang Theory" family are here with me today. One thing I know is the main reason I am here is because of the support of my family. Why I am specifically here today is because of the great role I play on the "Big Bang Theory," and the actors that I work with every week. I will try to enjoy this day. Thank you very much!"
Parsons hails from Houston, Texas. He graduated from the University of Houston, earning a BA. He continued his education at the Old Globe Theater/University of California at San Diego, earning a master's degree in fine arts.
Parsons became a smash hit when he first introduce his character Sheldon Cooper in "The Big Bang Theory." He plays a socially awkward genius - and he does it with charm, wit and with great comic timing. Parsons has earned four Emmy Awards, a Golden Globe Award and a Critics' Choice Television Award for his performance in "The Big Bang Theory," which is currently in its eighth season and runs in syndication as well.
His new role in the animated feature "Home," will have him starring opposite Rihanna and the film is set to be released into theaters on Friday, March 27, 2015, nationwide.
If that isn't enough, Parsons will be returning to Broadway to star as God in the play "An Act of God." Directed by Emmy Award winner David Javerbaum, "An Act of God," will play at Studio 54 and will open on Friday, May 28, 2015, for a limited engagement.
