Viola Davis & Denzel Washington look Oscar-worthy in new trailer out today in the screen adaptat
“Fences,” opens in theaters on Christmas day and appears to feature Oscar-caliber performance by Viola Davis and Denzel Washington. Washington already has two Oscars, one for his supporting role in “Glory,” and a second for his leading role in “Training Day.” But Viola is still waiting for her first Oscar, and “Fences,” just may be the film that propels her to her first Academy Award win. Davis came close to winning an Oscar in 2012 for her subtle, yet moving performance in “The Help.” But Viola, herself, knew that the more outlandish performance by Meryl Streep in “The Iron Lady” would win on Oscar night. And she was right.
Denzel Washington may have a chance to nab an Oscar for Best Director, as he as multiple roles on Fences – actor, director and producer.
And let’s face it August Wilson stands a good chance of also winning his first Oscar for adapting his own play into a film. Wilson is a very popular writer and he would be tough to beat against any film.
“Fences” is directed by Denzel Washington from a screenplay by August Wilson, adapted from Wilson's Pulitzer Prize-winning play. The film stars Denzel Washington, Viola Davis, Jovan Adepo, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Russell Hornsby, Mykelti Williamson, and Saniyya Sydney. The film is produced by Scott Rudin, Denzel Washington and Todd Black.
