Emma Stone named Best Actress for ‘La La Land’ at 2017 SAG Awards

Actress Emma Stone has been honored with a SAG Award for Best Actress for her performance in the modern musical “La La Land,” at the 23rd Annual Screen Actor Guild Awards tonight, Sunday, January 29, 2017, at the Shrine Auditorium in downtown Los Angeles, California. The yearly SAG Awards honor the best in motion pictures and television for the prior calendar year. The 23rd Annual SAG Awards ceremony was televised live on TNT and TBS at 8 p.m. (ET)/5 p.m. (PT).

“La La Land,” written and directed by Academy Award nominee Damien Chazelle, tells the story of Mia (Emma Stone), an aspiring actress, and Sebastian (Ryan Gosling), a dedicated jazz musician, who are struggling to make ends meet in a city known for crushing hopes and breaking hearts. Set in modern day Los Angeles, this original musical about everyday life explores the joy and pain of pursuing your dreams.

This is the third SAG Award win for Emma Stone. With Natalie Portman being thought of as the top contender for the Oscar for her performance in “Jackie,” in this category and Isabelle Huppert winning the Golden Globe just a few weeks ago for her performance in “Elle” – it looks like any actress nominated the an Oscar this year has a chance to win.

“La La Land” is rated PG-13 (for some language) and has a run-time of 128 minutes.
