Mahershala Ali named Best Supporting Actor for ‘Moonlight’ at 2017 SAG Awards

Actor Mahershala Ali has been honored with a SAG Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in “Moonlight” at the 23rd Annual Screen Actor Guild Awards tonight, Sunday, January 29, 2017, at the Shrine Auditorium in downtown Los Angeles, California. The yearly SAG Awards honor the best in motion pictures and television for the prior calendar year. The 23rd Annual SAG Awards ceremony was televised live on TNT and TBS at 8 p.m. (ET)/5 p.m. (PT).

“Moonlight” is the tender, heartbreaking story of a young man's struggle to find himself, told across three defining chapters in his life as he experiences the ecstasy, pain, and beauty of falling in love, while grappling with his own sexuality.

This is the first SAG Award win for Mahershala Ali and the actor is the front runner for winning the Oscar in February.

“Moonlight” is rated R for some sexuality, drug use, brief violence, and language throughout and has a run-time of one hour and 51 minutes.
