Emma Stone named Best Actress for ‘La La Land’ at 2017 Oscars

Actress Emma Stone has been honored with an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in “La La Land,” at the 89th Annual Oscars tonight, Sunday, February 26, 2017, at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, California. The yearly Academy Awards honor the best in motion pictures for the prior calendar year. The 89th Annual Academy Awards ceremony was televised live on ABC and was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.

“La La Land,” written and directed by Academy Award nominee Damien Chazelle, tells the story of Mia (Emma Stone), an aspiring actress, and Sebastian (Ryan Gosling), a dedicated jazz musician, who are struggling to make ends meet in a city known for crushing hopes and breaking hearts. Set in modern day Los Angeles, this original musical about everyday life explores the joy and pain of pursuing your dreams.

This is the first Oscar win and second nomination for Emma Stone. Her previous nomination was in 2015 for Best Supporting Actress in “Birdman.”
